Road Opening Ritual
using Clear Path Ahead Ritual Oil
Obstacle Remover · Road Opening · Clarity + Opportunity
Intention: Unblock paths and invite opportunities
Affirmation: Every step I take is on a clear and open path, leading me to abundant opportunities
Road opening oils get talked about a lot in witchcraft circles, and most of the time the conversation stays pretty surface-level. "Unblock your path." "Invite opportunity in." That's true, but it doesn't tell you much about what's actually happening when you work with one, or why you'd reach for this versus something else, so let me be more specific...
What road opening work actually is
Road opening is a tradition in folk magic, Hoodoo, and Afro-diasporic practice. At its core, it's work focused on clearing obstruction - not just physical circumstances, but the energetic residue that builds up around stagnation: repeated delays, decisions that don't resolve, opportunities that almost happen and then don't.
The assumption behind it is that movement is the natural state of things. When something keeps not moving, there's usually something sitting in the way. Road opening work addresses that directly.
Clear Path Ahead was built on that foundation. It's not a general positive vibes oil, it's crafted for a specific kind of stuck where there's resitance.
What that kind of stuck actually looks like
Not the intense kind where everything's clearly falling apart. The other kind.
You're still showing up. Still putting in effort. But decisions feel heavier than they should. Progress stalls for no obvious reason. The same situation keeps circling without real resolution. Opportunities get close, then fall away.
That's the territory this oil is for. That specific point where you know something needs to shift, but you haven't been able to move it yet.
The blend and why these ingredients
This is where I want to be actually useful, because ingredient lists without context aren't very helpful.
Clear Path Ahead is built on a base of organic jojoba and fractionated coconut oil. Both are stable carriers that absorb well and don't compete with the working ingredients. From there, the blend is layered with:
Lemongrass and Lemon - classically used for clarity, cutting through confusion, and sharpening mental focus. Both are associated with clearing stagnant energy and improving the flow of situations.
Tonka Bean - a softer, grounding note that supports manifestation and draws opportunity toward you rather than just clearing what's in the way. It balances the more active clearing ingredients.
Hyssop - traditionally used in purification and uncrossing work. It's been used for centuries in folk magic specifically for clearing spiritual blockages and removing what doesn't belong.
Cedarwood - grounding and stabilising. When you're clearing a path, you need something that keeps you rooted while things shift. Cedarwood does that.
Calamus - a strong working ingredient used in folk magic for commanding, controlling circumstances, and compelling movement. It gives the blend direction.
Cinquefoil - associated with success, good fortune, and opening the way. A classic road opening botanical.
Camphor and Sulfur - both heavy hitters in cleansing and obstacle removal, particularly for clearing spiritual interference or deeply entrenched blockages.
Coffee - used in folk magic to speed workings up and wake things up. When you've been stagnant, sometimes you need something that actively accelerates movement.
Lemon Peel - brightening, cleansing, associated with clarity and new beginnings.
Rose of Jericho - also called the resurrection plant. Used in road opening and spiritual renewal. Associated with restoring what's been dormant, opening what's been closed, and supporting new beginnings after periods of difficulty.
Each ingredient is pulling in the same direction: clear what's blocking, activate movement, create conditions for opportunity to land.
How to actually use it
The most common way is candle anointing. Use a 7-day or pillar candle if you're sitting with something over time... a job situation, a business decision, a life transition. Use a chime candle if you're doing a shorter, more focused working.
Anoint from the wick down to the base to draw something toward you, or from the base up if you're pushing something away. Both approaches work with Clear Path Ahead depending on whether you're calling opportunity in or clearing obstruction out.
Other practical applications:
A small amount on your palms before signing contracts, sending an important pitch, or making a decision you've been sitting on. You're not casting a spell at that point - you're setting your intention before an action that matters to free the path ahead of you.
Applied lightly to the temples before meditation or sleep if you're looking for clarity on a specific question. Dream work and intuitive work can both benefit from road opening energy when you're trying to see something more clearly.
Journaling or planning sessions where you're trying to work through what's actually in the way. Use it as part of the ritual of sitting down with the problem.
If you want to build it into a layered practice
This is how I'd suggest working with it if you want to go deeper
Start with Banishing Body Scrub to clear your own energy field before you begin. Then work with Clear Path Ahead Oil to set the direction and support movement. Finish with Psychic Shield Spray to protect what you've opened.
You're essentially doing three things in that sequence: clear, direct, protect. It doesn't need to be elaborate. Even five minutes of focused intention through each step will do more than an hour of unfocused ritual.
A note on what this oil won't do
Road opening work supports movement. It doesn't replace it.
This oil works best when you're already willing to act - to make the decision, have the conversation, take the step you've been avoiding. The shift tends to meet you where the effort is, not in place of it.
If you're looking for something to do the work for you, this isn't it. If you're ready to move but need support clearing what's sitting in the way, this is exactly for that.
RITUAL
What You’ll Need
- Clear Path Ahead Ritual Oil
- A candle (white, yellow, or orange works well)
- A small piece of paper + pen
Optional: a pinch of herbs like clove, bay leaf, or pepper for added heat and activation
Step 1 - Get Clear on What’s Stuck
Before you touch the oil, sit for a moment and actually name it.
Where are things not moving? What feels delayed, blocked, or just… off?
Write it down in a simple, direct way. Get past the whole story and figure out just the truth of it.
Step 2 - Turn It Into Direction
Underneath what you’ve written, shift the focus slightly, Write what you are now opening yourself to.
Eg Clarity around this decision, movement in this situation or opportunities that align and come through clearly
You’re setting direction for change.
Step 3 - Dress the Candle
Place a small amount of Clear Path Ahead Oil on your fingers
Slowly anoint the candle, focusing on the idea of movement, space, and things clearing out of the way. As you do this, repeat (out loud or in your head):
"Every step I take is on a clear and open path. What is ready for me moves toward me with ease"
Step 4 - Build the Working
Place your petition (the paper) underneath the candle. If you’re using herbs, sprinkle a small amount over the paper or around the base of the candle
Step 5 - Light the Candle
As you light it, sit with it for a moment just allowing space for things to move
Notice what comes up...sometimes it’s clarity straight away, sometimes it’s discomfort because you already know what needs to change
Both are part of the process
Step 6 - Let It Work
Let the candle burn safely
If it’s a smaller candle, let it burn all the way through
If it’s a larger one, you can return to it over a few days
Each time you come back to it, reconnect with the intention
Movement
Clarity
Open pathways
Step 7 - Close the Ritual
Once the candle has finished, take the paper
You can either:
Keep it somewhere safe as a reminder of what you’ve opened
Or tear it up and dispose of it, symbolising release and movement
Go with what feels right in the moment
Aftercare (This Matters More Than People Think)
This is the part people skip.. once things start to shift, you need to meet it
Reply to the message, make the decision, take the opportunity, have the conversation
The ritual opens the path but you still have to walk it
