Chilli has been cultivated in the Americas for thousands of years, with origins in tropical South and Central regions. Within the Inca Empire, it was known as uchu, simply meaning chilli or pepper. 

It spread across the Americas long before Christopher Columbus encountered it. He brought seeds back to Europe believing he had found a new form of pepper. He hadn’t, but it didn’t matter. Chilli established itself quickly and reshaped cuisines and practices worldwide.

Across Central and South American traditions, chilli carries a strong association with protection and purification. Its heat, scent, and intensity give it a clear function. It disrupts, clears, and drives out what does not belong. In some regions, dried chillies are hung in the home or near entrances as a ward against unwanted influence. Burnt alongside other pungent materials, it has been used to fumigate spaces and break up heavy or stagnant conditions.

Among the Aymara people, chilli has been used in cleansing practices such as steam baths to assist in removing harmful energies.

In Hoodoo, red pepper is a key component in formulas like Hot Foot powder, used to push people or situations away...Different systems, same underlying logic. 

Scott Cunningham aligns chilli with Mars and associates it with both protection and fidelity. It can be used to reinforce loyalty, but also to break attachments that have outstayed their place to force a shift.

Packaging: Our herbs are packaged in 100% biodegradable bags with compostable labels. All apothecary items are filled by volume, not weight. The quantity received depends on the cut, weight, and density of each herb. Typical fills range between approximately 3g-40g depending on the herb and selected unit price.
