Juniper has a long history as a protective and purifying plant, with its aromatic evergreen branches traditionally burned, carried and incorporated into practices intended to cleanse spaces and guard against unwanted influence.

As a cleansing smoke, Juniper has a distinctly protective character. It is particularly suited to workings where you want to clear what has accumulated while simultaneously reinforcing the energetic boundaries of the space.

Burn Juniper when a home feels heavy or unsettled, after unwanted visitors, following conflict or periods of stress, when moving into a new space, or before establishing wards and other protective workings.

Its evergreen nature also lends Juniper associations with resilience, endurance and protection through difficult periods. Where some cleansing botanicals are worked with primarily to purify, Juniper is a beautiful choice when the intention is to cleanse and fortify.

Juniper may also be burned before meditation, divination or ritual work to purify the working space and establish a protected environment before opening yourself spiritually.

How to Use

Before lighting your Juniper cleansing stick, establish what you intend to remove and where the boundaries of your space begin.

Light the end of the bundle and allow it to catch briefly before gently extinguishing the flame. Move the smoke throughout your space, paying particular attention to doorways, windows, corners and thresholds.

Open a window or external door while cleansing to allow smoke to disperse.

When finished, extinguish completely in a heatproof vessel. Never leave burning botanicals unattended.
